The recent articles about the new Hypnotist that was hired to do a session in a Montreal girls school with only 14 hours of basic training has raised a lot of questions with the public.Let me answer some of them for you.
Basic Hypnosis training requires a minimum of 40 hours of classroom training and additional 10-15 hours of home study and practice. And that is just the basics. And even after this amount of training I would NOT recommend that anyone be working a stage hypnosis show.
Clinical Hypnotherapy training, which gives people the experience and skills to work with an individual to make changes in their life requires a minimum of 160 hours of classroom training and very likely upwards of 40-60 hours of additional assignment and practical work. And I wouldn't recommend that anyone do a stage show UNTIL they have completed this type of training.
People should only allow themselves to be put into a trance state by a professional who will know what level of depth their clients are in, what they should be saying to them during that hypnotic state, and exactly how and when to bring them out of that state.
